Hope House Home for Boys

The cards that I sell here in Chapala and Ajijic, Mexico benefit the dental program for the boys at Hope House in the nearby village of Ixlahuacan. There are close to 30 boys at the home and many of them come to the home having received no dental treatment. If you live here at Lakeside and would like to order a quality, hand crafted card for a special occasion and help me contribute to this worthy cause, please e-mail me at bettyinchapala@yahoo.com Card price is 50 pesos; the entire sales price is donated to Hope House.

Butterfly

The card I am sharing with you today was made for the sketch challenge at stampTV. The image and sentiment are from Gina K. Designs, Take Flight; the designer paper is from Lara's Digi World; and the flowers were a gift from my friend, Melisa. I used two Cuttlebug embossing folders, Swiss Dots and Scroll Works, which you can see just the tiniest bit of along the top and side borders. This was one of my first stamp sets from Gina K. and it's still one of my favorites!
I'll be going to Mississippi tomorrow with my daughter and grandkids so I won't be posting cards for the next few days. I'll try to take a picture or two to share with you though so don't forget to come by!!

With Sympathy

I made this card for the Repeat Impressions Sketch J1211. I created the background with Annabelle Stamps Backgrounds By Design2, using Stampin' Up Soft Sky ink and Tim Holtz Pumice Stone Distressed ink. The image and sentiment are from Annabelle Stamps, Thoughtful Stems. Cutting was done with Nestabilities and a punched butterfly and colored pearls were the final elements. Hope you enjoyed stopping by!

Sew Much

I made this card last night to send to Operation Write Home. The background was created with a stamp from the set Backgrounds By Design 2, by Annabelle Stamps. The image is from Clear Dollar Stamps and is available from the "Help for Katie" fund. The sentiment is computer generated. Please check out the link about "Help for Katie" if you have not already done so. A fellow crafter needs our help if you are able to give it!

Let's Skate!

I have colored a Sassy Cheryl's image and made this card for her "Snow" Challenge #45; also for Papertake's Weekly Challenge with the theme "Cold and Frosty Morning". It's funny, because most people say "wish you could see the shimmer/sparkle on my card in real life". Well, this photo shows much more shimmer/sparkle than my card does in real life! I picked up the sparkly stick on buttons at Target this morning; they are by EK Success. The snowflakes finishes up a set I bought after Christmas 2009 on sale. I do have a few more rub on snowflakes left though. I know there are a lot of you out there in blog land who have an abundance of snowflakes -- particularly when you go outside! Y'all be careful when you're out driving among those flakes and try to stay warm!

Edited to Add: Thank you, Leanne, for inviting me to enter my card into the Top Tip Tuesday Challenge. Sounds like a great place to learn new things!!
Thanks to my friend Colleen I've found another weekly Christmas challenge site at Sparkle Creations and they want us to make a card with a snowman!

Flowers of Love

Here's the card I made today for Operation Write Home, using their Sketch 51. My photo doesn't capture the true colors but it's as close as I could get! Perhaps the fact that it's been a grey January day has something to do with it!

The sentiment is from Stampin' Up, image is by Just Inklined, and the digi papers are by Szunyo. I've been bemoaning the fact that all of the dp I had before moving to Mexico is in storage and it just occured to me that I have a wealth of digital papers saved to my computer! Had a lot of fun looking through them last night!

Hope you've all been safe and warm today,

Betty

Monkey See, Monkey Do!

No, I'm not talking about my DGD having to do everything that she sees my DGS doing! I saw this beautiful card over on my friend Janice's blog and had to do one like it. She told me that she had gotten the sketch from Repeat Impressions Skech #D2910. I'm pleased with my card but that cardinal on hers is just stunning!

Will also be entering this card in some other challenges:
Speedy's Friends -- to use embossing (I heat embossed the borders in black)
Stampin' B's -- to use something old and something new
the new is the border stamp that I blogged about yesterday; also dp from DD at Christmas
the old is Stampin' Up Certainly Celery cardstock (is it still an active color????)

Now, on to the last challenge which requires some explanation. Annabelle Stamps is having a recipe challenge to use 1 border stamp, 2 flowers, and 3 gems. Okay, I guess I just don't know how to follow a recipe. I ended up with 1 border stamp, but I used it twice; my stemed flower has five blooms, and I used six pink pearls. I could say that I got confused and thought that it was supposed to be:
1. border stamp
2. flowers
3. gems BUT,
that would be a big old fat lie and I couldn't live with myself. So, I will just take myself over to the time out corner and sit out this challenge -- but I did want to show my card to you, Andrea, Sue, and all you other sweet gals! And to show you how much I appreciate winning the border stamps!

New Stamps in the House!

I did not make a card today but I did have a thrill when I checked the mailbox. Found an envelope that had come all the way from Australia with a set of border stamps that I won from Annabelle Stamps.
On the back of the package it says "Ink the image and stamp a few times on scrap paper to help prepare your stamp. When happy with the impression begin stamping." Well, I have to tell you, I was happy the the impression from my first stamp with each of these beauties. I had no need whatsoever to "prepare" them -- they are perfect from the word go!
Here's a link to Annabelle's Stamps Challenge Blog but there's a tab there that will take you to their store. Be sure to check out what they have to offer. You might even want to enter the current recipe challenge: 1) border stamp 2) flowers 3)sparkles/gems. I'm thinking that my border stamps arrived at just the right time!
See ya later,
Betty
